Was that a musical?

Or a movie?  Or a concert?  I’m not sure what to call Tuesday night’s showing of “The Big Four” but whatever it was certainly was a good way to spend a not-so-quiet night with my son.

If you’re not a fan of heavy metal over the past 20+ years then some sort of introduction is probably required here.  “The Big Four” refers to Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer, who collectively represent the most influential American metal artists since at least the 80’s.  Tuesday night’s performance at the Sonisphere Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria was shown same day via satellite in over 450 theaters across three continents.  In simple terms,  this is a really big deal if you’re into their music.

Sounds like a freight train

Sitting in a quiet house Tuesday night, listening to the rain & thunder and right behind the thought about how peaceful the rain sounded was the random notion of how unpleasant the same thing can be.

I suspect just about anyone who has lived in the South, or the midwest, has their own tornado story.  If you’re my age or younger, the difference between a watch & a warning has been pretty well ingrained since childhood.  What’s the other thing you always hear?  Yep, some variation of “it sounds like a freight train”, heck even the CDC says so.  That sound is one of those things you don’t forget once you’ve heard it and hearing it even once is plenty enough for a lifetime for most people, although exceptions to that rule certainly exist, like a friend of mine who has taken up stormchasing as a hobby.

Betwixt and Between

I bet at least half of you thought I’d already abandoned ship after going a couple of days without posting.  Nah, at the most it’s been a mild & temporary case of writer’s block.  But even that isn’t really an accurate description.

If you follow my Facebook status updates then you already know that my word for the week has been “weird”.  As in, all sort of things happening in my world that are unexpected/out of the ordinary/downright, well, weird.  Problem is, for various reasons those things aren’t topics for public discussion (at least not yet).  Some of them have definite potential but if I can’t go there yet then I can’t go there yet.

And while those several things have shared custody of my waking hours along with a steady stream of work, it isn’t as though I’m completely in a vacuum either, you’d think I could have come up with something to write about.  Problem is, most of the things that seem ripe for comment aren’t anything I’m ready to tackle either.

What’s in a name?

I mentioned that there was a story that goes with the long delay between mentally committing to doing this blog & actually launching it.  Might as well explain that here so experienced bloggers can make fun of me a little.

I started thinking seriously about doing this in late January 2010, decided I’d like to do it not long after, but then it took me until June to actually get it online.  Why so long?  I couldn’t settle on what to call it.

What’s the point to this?

In my previous post I mentioned that there was a longer story behind this blog, I feel like I ought to explain that a little more just so this all might make a little more sense.
