J3C College Football Top 25 (after Week 13 )

Ah Rivalry Week, where anything can happen.  But can does not always equal does.

Clemson and Alabama both had tougher times with their rivals than the records on paper would have suggested likely but that’s reasonably attributed to it being rivalry week and teams elevating their games rather than any glaring sign of weakness for the favorites  … Oklahoma didn’t even have that much trouble, if anything they used the opportunity to bolster their claim on a top four spot … Iowa did enough, which keeps them alive and in the hunt for another week … Michigan State certainly did themselves no harm, although their arch rival matchup is long since in the rearview mirror … Stanford prevailed over Notre Dame in what was probably the game of the day … Baylor fell victim to a decent team, but both the Bears and TCU were victims of Mother Nature as much as each other … Significant upsets were largely limited to the the far west, where both USC and Washington claimed bragging rights for the next year … Tennessee handled Vandy the way the Vols should handle Vandy, and that’s a sign of progress I suppose … Somehow Georgia managed to handle Georgia Tech is such {cough} dominant fashion that a win wasn’t enough to save the job of jolly old Saint Richt.  That for the first time in my life I pretty much intentionally slept through the entire affair might have been a bit of foreshadowing about how trivial an affair the game actually was.  It’s been a harsh and disheartening season for this lifelong Tech fan, one that I’m not entirely sure my enthusiasm will ever completely recover from … at least not until they show signs of actual being willing to try to improve themselves.
