Halloween soundtrack, metal style

I know Friday’s 5 o’clock Whistle had a holiday theme, but that was two whole days ago. So here’s a little more music to put you in the mood for a little more Halloween.

J3C College Football Top 25 (after wk 9)

Another day, another disappointing second half by Tennessee. This seems to be a trend … If you had no rooting interest, the Florida-Georgia game was pretty fun to watch. If you had a rooting interest, it was either serious relief or serious disappointment in the end … Was that a chink in the Oregon armor we saw last night? … So much for Michigan State, which surprised me a reasonable amount … So much for Missouri, which didn’t surprise me at all … No one actually thought Ole Miss was going to be a problem for Auburn did they? … How on earth did Duke beat Navy? … On the bright side, GT avoided any more ugliness, at least until Thursday …

Friday 5 o’clock Whistle (10/29/10)

Halloween weekend is upon us so a little mood music seems appropriate. After the whistle, there’s demons, Zombies, Frankenstein, and monsters … it’s like a Nightmare 🙂

J3C College Football Top 25 (after week 8)

I’m running out of ways to describe the misery this season has turned into for me as a fan. It is what it is at this point, I’m reduced to watching college football with as little personal rooting interest as I’ve had in a long time, or more accurately, not watching. GT is miserable, UT is even worse, there’s no way to sugarcoat it, although at least the Vols have a temporary excuse of having their recruiting disrupted by Lil’ Lane. On the Flats, there really isn’t an excuse for the poor judgment that has dropped the talent level to frightening depths … At the top of the poll Oregon continues to play like a video game, but it’s certainly working for them … I believe Cam Newton has the Heisman as long as the Tigers lose no more than one game between now & the bowls. He’s simply a freak of nature, but in a good way … Speaking of Newton, think Urban Meyer cries himself to sleep at night over what might have been? I would. … I wonder if people in Beijing refer to mass confusion as a Baton Rouge firedrill? … And at the risk of repeating myself, how bad is the SEC East right now? At this point I expect UGA to beat up Florida & position themselves for a conference title shot …

Friday 5 o’clock Whistle (10/22/10)

Note: Due to unexpected complications, 5pm Friday did not occur in my blog world until almost 1am Saturday. Sorry about that folks.

The calendar keeps rolling along & so does the rock for your weekend. This week there’s new music from Rob Halford & Avenged Sevenfold, plus some Metallica for good measure.

Game on

With now only the whims of our Fed Ex driver standing between me & the arrival of Fallout: New Vegas, I’ve been thinking a little about my history with video games. Not so much all the places I’ve been, but rather, how I ended up back here.

J3C College Football Top 25 (after wk 7)

Well that was interesting … Guess I was just a week ahead of the curve by putting someone other than Ohio State at #1 … Georgia Tech looks like a contender for the Sun Belt conference title … Georgia did what was expected against Vandy … Tennessee managed to avoid losing to Open Date … Nevada & Air Force betray my confidence in them … Clearly Arkansas has a lot of work to do, you aren’t going to win many basketball games unless you can score at least fifty points. Huh? What? FOOTBALL? That was a football sc … Nevermind. … In putting together this week’s poll, I realize more than ever than going past the top 10 or so, things start to get really iffy. By the time I get to 20, it’s a real crapshoot.

Friday 5 o’clock Whistle (10/15/10)

“For those who understand, no explanation is necessary… for those who don’t, none is possible” The weekend has arrived so there’s music from Disturbed, brand new Alter Bridge, and some Iron Maiden. Rock on my friends, rock on …

J3C College Football Top 25 (after wk 6)

See? I told you that the Vols defense could cure what ailed Georgia. Rumor has it that they’ll play a key role in the next George Romero movie, as the catalyst that revives the dead … That one was easy to anticipate, the Poultry giving the Ol’ Ball Coach another moment in the sun was not. Props to South Carolina, players & coaches alike … Losing to LSU? At home? WTF is going on in Florida? … In Atlanta, the Wreck rambled on Homecoming, proving that they’re at least better than the dregs of the ACC. Darned if I think they proved anything else though … USC: Welcome to the Kiffin Family Experience. Thanks Stanford, ‘preciate your effort to make the world a better place … Thanks Michigan State for the same, to a lesser degree.

Friday 5 o’clock Whistle (10/8/10)

The weather is finally getting cooler, starting to feel like football weather. Might as well turn up the heat to start the weekend with music from Black Sabbath, Three Days Grace, and Pantera right after the Whistle.
